Common Questions

NDIS Physiotherapy FAQ

Do I need a referral to access NDIS physiotherapy? +

No GP referral is required. You simply need physiotherapy listed as a support in your NDIS plan under Improved Daily Living (IDL) — support category 15. If you're unsure, your support coordinator can help confirm this.

What NDIS support category does physiotherapy fall under? +

Physiotherapy is typically funded under Support Category 15 — Improved Daily Living (IDL). The specific support item is "Assessment, Recommendation, Therapy and/or Training — Physiotherapy." If you have a Home and Living goal, physiotherapy may also be funded under Category 6.

How much does an NDIS physiotherapy session cost? +

We charge in line with the current NDIS Price Guide rate for physiotherapy. There are no out-of-pocket costs for plan-managed and agency-managed participants — we invoice your plan manager or the NDIS directly. Self-managed participants are invoiced and then seek reimbursement from the NDIS.

Do you offer home visits for NDIS participants? +

Yes. We provide home-visit physiotherapy across Greater Western Sydney including Parramatta, Westmead, Merrylands, Granville, Blacktown, Penrith and surrounding suburbs. Home visits are billed at the NDIS non-face-to-face and provider travel rate where applicable.

How quickly can we get started? +

After receiving your referral, we aim to contact you within 1 business day to schedule an initial appointment. Most participants are seen within 1–2 weeks, and for urgent cases we do our best to accommodate sooner.

What is the difference between registered and unregistered NDIS providers? +

Registered providers (like Thrive) have been audited and approved by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. This is required for agency-managed participants and provides additional consumer protections. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can use both registered and unregistered providers.
